Character background and lore

Shalltear Bloodfallen is one of the Guardians of the Great Tomb of Nazarick in Overlord. She primarily rules over the lower levels of the gigantic dungeon and is one of the most powerful servants under the command ofAinz Ooal Gown.

Shalltear is a very high-level vampire, originally created in the MMORPG YGGDRASIL before Nazarick and its inhabitants were mysteriously transported to a new world. Like the other beings created by the members of the Ainz Ooal Gown guild, she is almost utterly loyal to Ainz.

Her delicate appearance stands in stark contrast to her true nature. Behind her appearance as a young aristocratic woman lies an extremely dangerous fighter, specialising in both close combat and the use of magic.

In particular, she possesses considerable physical strength, the regenerative abilities characteristic of vampires, and several skills that allow her to recover energy during battles. This combination makes her one of the most challenging opponents amongst the inhabitants of Nazarick.

Shalltear also has an ongoing rivalry with Albedo, mainly due to their shared affection for Ainz. This rivalry gives rise to numerous lighter-hearted scenes that contrast with the often dark and strategic nature of the Overlord universe.

One of the most significant moments in her story occurs when she is subjected to external mind control. Ainz then finds himself forced to personally face one of his own Guardians in a particularly strategic duel that demonstrates just how dangerous Shalltear is when she utilises her abilities to the full.
