Character background and lore
Makoto Yuki is the main protagonist of Persona 3 and its remake, Persona 3 Reload. A transfer pupil at Gekkoukan High School, he quickly joins the S.E.E.S. group, a team of students capable of exploring a mysterious period between midnight and the following day: the Dark Hour.
Like the other members of S.E.E.S., Makoto has the ability to summon a Persona, a supernatural manifestation of his personality and inner strength. He stands out, however, for his exceptional ability to use several different Personas, which gives him a central role in battles against the Shadows.
As the adventure unfolds, Makoto forms close bonds with the other characters through the Social Links system, a key feature of the Persona series. These relationships enhance his abilities whilst giving prominence to themes of friendship, grief, the passing of time, and the way in which each person finds meaning in their own existence.
With his calm demeanour, his Gekkoukan High School uniform and his pivotal role in the events of Persona 3 Reload, Makoto Yuki remains one of the franchise’s most iconic protagonists.
