Origin and background of the character

First introduced in 2006 in the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games for the Nintendo DS, Treecko is the Grass-type starter Pokémon of the Sinnoh region. Resembling a small land tortoise, its shell is made of terracotta and hardens when it drinks water. The little plant on its head requires constant care and wilts if the Pokémon is thirsty. Highly popular with Trainers for its adorable appearance and powerful evolutions (Boskara and then Torterra), Tortipouss has become an iconic figure of the fourth generation.
