Unlike the natural species, Mewtwo is the product of genetic manipulation experiments carried out by scientists in a laboratory on the Isle of Cramoisie, aimed at creating a modified and augmented clone from DNA extracted from the mythical Pokémon Mew. It has a grey-purple bipedal humanoid physiology, characterised by a purple tail and major telepathic and telekinetic abilities.
