Origin and character background
Introduced in her modern incarnation in 2006 by Geoff Johns and Greg Rucka in DC Comics, Kate Kane — alias Batwoman — is a revolutionary figure in pop culture. A former elite cadet in the US Army, she was expelled from the US Military Academy at West Point because of her homosexuality, having refused to lie about her identity. Back in Gotham City, inspired by a chance encounter with Batman, she decides to use her exceptional tactical skills and her fortune to wage her own war on crime under the guise of Batwoman. The first lesbian superhero to star in her own comic book series and then her own television adaptation, she embodies resilience, justice and authenticity. This model from the Pride collection pays a vibrant tribute to her status as an essential icon of diversity within the superhero universe.
