Ranma Saotome is a young martial arts prodigy who has been trained intensively from a very young age by his father, Genma Saotome. After accidentally falling into the ‘Drowned Boy’s Spring’, Ranma is struck by a unique magical curse: the slightest contact with cold water instantly transforms him into a young red-haired girl, whilst hot water allows him to regain his original male appearance. Forced against his will into an arranged marriage with the young Akane Tendo to ensure the merger of their family dojos, Ranma must juggle his daily life between eccentric martial arts rivals, intrusive suitors (such as Shampoo) and the constant complications caused by his changing body, establishing himself as one of the funniest and most agile anti-heroes in the history of shōnen manga.
