Origin and background of the character

Spice and Wolf, also known as Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf for the new adaptation, is a work blending fantasy, travel, trade and romance. The story follows Lawrence, a travelling merchant, and Holo, a wolf deity associated with the harvest, who accompanies him on a journey through market towns, the countryside and trade routes.

Holo is nicknamed the Wise Wolf of Yoitsu. She is distinguished by her intelligence, humour, pride and symbolic connection to the harvests. At once mischievous, melancholic and deeply endearing, she embodies the balance between ancient nature, supernatural wisdom and very human emotions.
