Character background and lore

Mario is the iconic hero of Nintendo’s Super Mario series. Always ready for an adventure, he regularly travels across the Mushroom Kingdom to rescue Princess Peach and thwart Bowser’s plans.

In Super Mario Galaxy, Mario leaves the Mushroom Kingdom to travel through space. He explores numerous galaxies with varying physical properties, accompanied by Princess Rosalina and the Lumas, in order to recover the Big Stars stolen by Bowser.

The Bee Mario transformation occurs when Mario collects a Bee Mushroom. This costume allows him to fly for a limited time, reach distant platforms and move across certain surfaces covered in honey. This ability plays an important role in several levels centred around gardens, flowers and beehives.

However, this transformation has certain limitations: notably, Mario loses his ability upon contact with water or when he is hit by an attack. His bee appearance nevertheless remains one of the most recognisable and original forms introduced in Super Mario Galaxy.
