Origin and background of the item (Lore)

The Red Shell is one of the most iconic items in the Super Mario franchise. It originally comes from the Koopa Troopas, turtle-like creatures who regularly serve in Bowser’s armies.

In platform games, Mario can usually send a shell rolling along the ground after jumping on a Koopa. It then rolls in a straight line, knocking over any enemies in its path and bouncing off certain obstacles. However, its trajectory means the player must remain vigilant, as a shell may roll back towards them.

The Red Shell is best known for its role in the Mario Kart series. When thrown, it automatically heads towards the driver in front of the player. It is therefore a particularly effective weapon for catching up with a rival or disrupting their path.

Unlike the Green Shell, which generally follows a straight path, the Red Shell can be steered. It can, however, be stopped by an obstacle, destroyed by certain items, or blocked by a banana or another shell held behind a vehicle.
