Top Gun: Maverick — Maverick’s F/A-18E Super Hornet — Revell 1/48 Scale Model Kit
Recreate the fighter jet piloted by Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in the film Top Gun: Maverick with this F/A-18E Super Hornet model kit from Revell. Built to a scale of 1/48, this kit combines a detailed reproduction of the modern US Navy aircraft with the specific markings seen in the film.
The model consists of 161 plastic parts to be assembled. Once completed, it measures approximately 38.2 cm in length, 28.4 cm in wingspan and 10.1 cm in height, offering a size large enough to showcase the Super Hornet’s distinctive lines.
The fuselage surface features recessed structural lines, whilst the cockpit and landing gear are rendered with a level of detail appropriate to this scale. The tail stabilisers are movable, allowing the aircraft’s display configuration to be adjusted slightly.
The kit also includes an electronic countermeasures pod, Mk 83 bombs and various AIM-type guided missiles. A sheet of decals allows you to reproduce the markings of the F/A-18E associated with Maverick in the film.
This traditional model requires assembly using glue and painting. It is rated difficulty level 5 by Revell and is primarily intended for experienced modellers aged 13 and over.

Origin and background of the aircraft
The F/A-18E Super Hornet is a multi-role carrier-based fighter aircraft developed for the US Navy. It is capable of carrying out air superiority, escort, reconnaissance, in-flight refuelling, close air support and precision strike missions, both day and night.
The Super Hornet family was unveiled in 1995. The F/A-18E is the single-seat version, whilst the F/A-18F is a two-seater. Both variants are designed to operate from aircraft carriers and represent a significant evolution of the original F/A-18 Hornet.
The Super Hornet is powered by two General Electric F414 engines. Its airframe, robust flight controls and on-board equipment are adapted to the specific demands of naval aviation operations, including catapult launches, carrier landings and exposure to a maritime environment.
In *Top Gun: Maverick*, Pete Mitchell has become a test pilot after more than thirty years of service. He is recalled to the Top Gun programme to train a group of young graduates for a particularly dangerous specialised mission.
The single-seater F/A-18E is mainly used for sequences showing Maverick alone at the controls. The film also uses two-seater F/A-18Fs to allow the actors to sit behind real US Navy pilots whilst filming the aerial scenes.
The Super Hornet thus replaces the F-14 Tomcat as the centrepiece of this new generation of Top Gun. More modern, versatile and still used for carrier-based operations, it symbolises the evolution of the US Navy’s naval aviation between the first film and its sequel.
This Revell model reproduces the version associated with Maverick, featuring its single-seater cockpit, armament, film markings and the main external features of the F/A-18E.
