Celebrate 50 years of the Chogokin range with this commemorative edition of the Voltes V robot, produced by Bandai Tamashii Nations as part of the Soul of Chogokin collection.

This GX-31SP version features the robot’s iconic colour scheme, with armour dominated by blue, red, white and silver. For this anniversary edition, several metal parts feature a silver-chrome finish, notably on the arms, torso and thighs. Additional white trim on the head and the Volt Cruiser also pays homage to the classic Popinica toys.

The figure can be separated into five independent vehicles: the Volt Cruiser, the Volt Bomber, the Volt Panzer, the Volt Frigate and the Volt Lander. These five machines can then be transformed and combined to form Voltes V, recreating the famous assembly sequence from the series.

The robot features numerous joints, allowing for a variety of attack poses. Several iconic weapons are included, amongst which are the Tenkuuken sword, the Voltes Bazooka and various close-combat weapons. An additional mechanism also allows you to recreate a heavy tank configuration specific to the range’s toys.

Measuring approximately 25 cm, this model combines die-cast metal parts with ABS and PVC components. A display stand is provided for storing the weapons and accessories when not in use.

Origin and background of the robot

Voltes V is a giant robot formed by the combination of five vehicles piloted by a team of young warriors. Together, they battle the forces of the Boazan Empire, which seeks to conquer Earth. The robot is particularly notable for its famous Tenkuuken sword and its five-part assembly system.

The series is part of the great Japanese tradition of combinable robots and has gained particular popularity in Asia. A live-action adaptation entitled Voltes V: Legacy was broadcast in the Philippines in 2023.

The Chogokin brand, established in 1974, has become famous for its robots featuring die-cast metal and transformation mechanisms. This GX-31SP version was produced to mark its 50th anniversary in 2024 and is based on the design of the GX-31, with the addition of a metallic finish, chrome-plated parts and several improvements developed over the course of subsequent reissues.
