Character background and lore

CM Punk is an American Superstar from Chicago, who rose to fame for his rebellious persona, his outspoken nature and his ‘straight edge’ lifestyle. He joined WWE via ECW in 2006 and quickly made a name for himself with his versatile fighting style and openly anti-establishment personality. His main finishing moves include the G.T.S. (Go to Sleep) and the Anaconda Vise.

His first spell at WWE was marked by numerous title wins, including the ECW, Intercontinental, World Tag Team, World Heavyweight and WWE championships. He also won the Money in the Bank Ladder Match twice, in 2008 and 2009. His character took on a new dimension in 2011 with his famous speeches, dubbed ‘Pipe Bombs’, which reinforced his image as a wrestler who defied the company’s conventions.

After several years away from WWE, CM Punk returned to the organisation in 2023 and gradually regained a prominent place in the programming. His second spell was notably marked by his rivalries with Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins, as well as by new world title reigns. In 2026, WWE recognised him as having held the WWE Championship three times and the World Heavyweight Championship five times; he currently holds the Undisputed WWE Championship, having won it in July 2026.
