Character background and lore

Randy Orton is an American professional wrestler from a family of wrestlers. His father, ‘Cowboy’ Bob Orton, his uncle Barry Orton and his grandfather Bob Orton Sr. all wrestled before him. Randy made his WWE debut in the early 2000s and quickly joined Evolution, a group that included Triple H, Ric Flair and Batista.

In 2004, Orton became the youngest World Heavyweight Champion in WWE history. His career has earned him a succession of nicknames, including ‘The Legend Killer’, ‘The Viper’ and ‘WWE’s Apex Predator’. He has amassed a total of 14 world championship reigns, comprising ten WWE Championships and four World Heavyweight Championships, as well as Intercontinental, United States and tag team titles. He also won the Royal Rumble matches in 2009 and 2017.

His most famous move remains the RKO, a finishing move that Orton can unleash with lightning speed. This ability to take his opponents by surprise has played a major part in shaping the identity of ‘The Viper’ and the phrase that has become inextricably linked with the wrestler: an RKO that can come ‘out of nowhere’.
