Character background and lore

Shinsuke Nakamura is a Japanese professional wrestler from Kyoto, known worldwide by the nickname ‘King of Strong Style’. His fighting style combines particularly powerful strikes with various submission holds, whilst his signature finishing move is the Kinshasa, a violent knee strike delivered to his opponent. His charisma, distinctive moves and highly theatrical entrances are also an essential part of his character.

Before joining WWE, Nakamura made a name for himself at New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where he became the IWGP Heavyweight Champion on three occasions. WWE notes that he was also the youngest wrestler to win this title, having claimed it for the first time at the age of just 23. He then joined NXT, where he became NXT Champion twice, before continuing his career on the main WWE roster.

One of the highlights of his WWE career came at the 2018 Royal Rumble, where Nakamura won the Men’s Royal Rumble after entering in fourteenth position, thereby securing a world title shot at WrestleMania 34. His WWE career also includes two reigns as Intercontinental Champion, three as United States Champion and one reign as SmackDown Tag Team Champion.
