Origin and character background (Lore)

Eren Jaeger is one of the central characters in Attack on Titan. As a child living within the Walls, he dreams of discovering the outside world with his friends Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlelt. In the year 845, the Colossal Titan’s attack on Wall Maria turns his life upside down and leads to his mother’s death. Driven by a fierce determination to eliminate the Titans, Eren subsequently joins the 104th Training Battalion, graduating in fifth place before taking part in the defence of the Trost District.

It was during the Battle of Trost that his ability to transform himself into a Titan was revealed. Eren gradually discovers that he has inherited from his father, Grisha Jaeger, the power of the Attacking Titan, one of the Nine Titans, as well as another power whose significance becomes central to the rest of the story. His Titan form enables him, in particular, to confront other Titans directly whilst retaining – once he has learnt how – his consciousness and his purpose.

The Attacking Titan is passed down from generation to generation and is distinguished by its deep connection to the quest for freedom, a central theme in Eren’s journey. Over the course of the series, he evolves from a young soldier determined to exterminate the Titans into a key figure in the conflict between Paradise Island, Marley and the rest of the world. His power and the truths he uncovers about the Titans’ origins gradually transform his view of his enemies and the freedom he seeks.

The ‘Split’ concept of this POP! No. 2551 perfectly illustrates this duality by combining Eren Jaeger and the Attacking Titan into a single figurine, making his transformation the central element of the design.
