Origin and world of the character (Lore)Introduced in the Rebirth expansion (2014) of the roguelike action game designed by Edmund McMillen, Azazel is a character unlocked after completing three pacts with the Devil in a single game. Representing a demonic and corrupt facet of the protagonist Isaac's mind, he embodies the biblical scapegoat banished to the desert. Unlike the other characters, who attack by spraying tears, Azazel begins each game with the inability to cry, compensated by the power to fly and project a short-range incendiary beam of blood (a mini-Brimstone). He also begins his journey in the underground equipped exclusively with three black hearts of vulnerability.
