Cars — Disney POP! No. 1789 Martin with jet pack
Shift into high gear with this POP! Disney No. 1789 figurine featuring Martin, the endearing breakdown truck from the Disney and Pixar Cars universe. Designed by Funko, this special edition depicts Flash McQueen’s best friend kitted out with the powerful spy jet-pack seen in Cars 2.
Martin retains his characteristic appearance as an old, rusty recovery truck. His brown bodywork features various shades reminiscent of weathered metal, whilst his blue-green doors recall the colour he used to have before years of hard work and exposure to the elements. His missing bonnet, mismatched headlights and prominent teeth complete his instantly recognisable look.
The figure also features his professional equipment, including a rear tipper body, a tow arm and a hook. These elements reflect his work in Radiator Springs, where he runs the Tow Mater Towing & Salvage service.
This version is distinguished above all by the two thrusters fitted behind his cab. The system temporarily transforms the tow truck into an extremely fast vehicle, capable of keeping up with racing cars and extricating himself from dangerous situations. The thrusters and their propulsion effects lend a particularly dynamic dimension to Martin’s usually slow and clumsy silhouette.
The jet pack is a direct reference to his international adventures in *Cars 2*. Mistaken for a secret agent, Martin is given several sophisticated gadgets, including thrusters concealed at the rear of his vehicle. He uses them, in particular, to race through London with Flash McQueen in tow. Pixar presents the second film as an international adventure in which the two friends leave Radiator Springs for the World Grand Prix, whilst an official Disney video shows Martin taking part in a race using his spy rocket kit.
Made from vinyl, this figurine stands approximately 6.6 cm tall. It comes in an illustrated window box bearing the number 1789 and can be paired with the POP! Sayings Flash McQueen ‘Ka-Chow!’ from the same series.

Character background and universe (Lore)
Martin is a former breakdown lorry living in Radiator Springs, a small town on Route 66. Despite his dilapidated appearance and sometimes clumsy behaviour, he has a generous, loyal and deeply optimistic nature.
In the first Cars film, Martin quickly becomes Flash McQueen’s best friend. He introduces him to everyday life in Radiator Springs, takes him out to knock over tractors at night and teaches him how to reverse using his wing mirrors.
Martin is unconcerned about his rusty bodywork or what others think of him. He sees every dent as a reminder of an adventure and fully accepts his appearance. This lack of pretension contrasts sharply with Flash McQueen’s initially ambitious and self-centred character.
In Cars 2, Martin accompanies his friend abroad for the first World Grand Prix. A series of misunderstandings leads British agents Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell to mistake him for an American spy who is particularly skilled in the art of disguise. Martin then finds himself caught up in an operation aimed at identifying those behind a plot against the competitors in the race.
The agents fit the recovery vehicle with a range of secret technologies. These include a communication system, various defence tools and retractable rocket boosters. The latter enable him to reach speeds far exceeding his usual capabilities and to transport Lightning McQueen through the streets of London.
Behind the comic situations, Martin plays a decisive role in solving the case. His knowledge of mechanics enables him to recognise engine parts and work out the identity of the real culprit. The characteristics that others see as flaws — his ordinary appearance, his simple way of speaking and his curiosity — thus become his greatest strengths.
This POP! figure highlights the contrast between the old tow truck from Radiator Springs and the ultra-fast spy vehicle it temporarily becomes. The jet pack symbolises one of Martin’s most extravagant adventures, without detracting from his smile, his rust and his deliberately rustic appearance.
