Origin and world of the character
The character of Timon comes from the animated feature film The Lion King, produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation Studios and released in 1994. Directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, this film is one of the greatest successes in the history of animated cinema and a pillar of the period known as Disney's "Second Golden Age". The plot is loosely based on William Shakespeare's Hamlet and takes place on the African savannah, where the young lion cub Simba must overcome the death of his father to claim his throne. At the heart of the story is Timon, a lively, talkative and opportunistic meerkat who, along with his inseparable warthog friend Pumbaa, adopts Simba after his escape. Together they pass on their philosophy of carefree living, summed up in the famous phrase "Hakuna Matata". Luau's outfit (straw skirt and flower necklace) is a reference to the cult scene in Act III where Timon dances the hula to attract the attention of the hungry hyenas, proving his courage and devotion to his friends.
