Akira Toriyama is undoubtedly the world's most famous manga artist,thanks to his famous Dragon Ball series. He began publishing his first stories in Shônen Jump magazine in 1980 with "Doctor Slump", which he drew for four years. He met with worldwide success with "Dragon Ball", published in the same magazine for 10 years, from 1985 to 1995, totalling more than 8,000 pages of comics. It was a masterful series that propelled him to the top. He followed this up with "Cowa" in 1998 and two one-shots in 2000, "Kajika" and "Sand Land", published by Glénat. Akira Toriyama runs a studio called Bird Studio, and as well as comics, he has designed characters for video games such as Toruneko no daibôken and Chrono Trigger.
