Origin and background of the character
Chichi is a central character introduced in the first part of the Dragon Ball saga. Daughter of the fearsome Gyumao (the Bull King) and princess of Fever Mountain, she crosses paths with the young Son Goku whilst she is still just a child. Despite her apparent naivety, she proves to be a formidable fighter, having been rigorously trained in martial arts by her father. A childhood misunderstanding leads Goku to promise to marry her, a promise she reminds him of years later during the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament. Now the hero’s wife and the protective mother of Gohan and Goten, Chichi sometimes swaps her combat armour for the role of a strong-willed mother, but her determination and courage remain legendary within the world of pop culture.
