Origin and world of the character
Dr Gregory House is the main character in the American drama and medical television series Dr House(House M.D.), created by David Shore and broadcast between 2004 and 2012. Played by British actor Hugh Laurie, House is a brilliant, cynical, misanthropic and deeply unconventional doctor who leads a team of medical diagnosticians at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro University Hospital in New Jersey. Suffering from a major lameness in his right leg caused by an undiagnosed muscular infarction, he is constantly moving around with the aid of a cane and has a severe addiction to painkillers. Inspired by the figure of Sherlock Holmes, the series revolves around his rigorous deductions and police-like investigative methods to unravel extremely complex pathologies that no other practitioner can identify.- *
