Origin and backstory of the character
DIO (formerly Dio Brando) is the ultimate antagonist and the iconic face of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure franchise, created by Hirohiko Araki. Adopted by the Joestar family in the late 19th century (Part 1: Phantom Blood), his boundless ambition and cruelty led him to renounce his humanity by using a mysterious stone mask to transform himself into a virtually immortal vampire. After a century of slumber at the bottom of the ocean, he awoke in the 1980s (Part 3: Stardust Crusaders), having taken possession of the body of his adoptive brother, Jonathan Joestar. Based in his sumptuous lair in Cairo, his resurrection forges a cursed spiritual bond that awakens the Stands throughout the Joestar lineage. DIO possesses the ultimate Stand known as The World (Za Warudo), an entity of colossal physical strength capable of halting the flow of time for several seconds. His megalomania and his legendary showdown with Jotaro Kujo have made him one of the most memorable villains in the history of pop culture.
