Origin and character background (Lore)

Daniel LaRusso is the protagonist of *The Karate Kid*, a film released in 1984. When he moves to California with his mother, he quickly becomes the target of several members of the Cobra Kai dojo, notably their best fighter, Johnny Lawrence.

Daniel then finds a mentor in Mr Miyagi, who teaches him karate according to a philosophy based on balance, discipline and self-control. Their training leads Daniel to the All Valley tournament, where he must face the Cobra Kai students.

Johnny Lawrence is portrayed as Daniel’s main rival. A talented pupil of Sensei John Kreese, he practises a much more aggressive style of karate based on the doctrine ‘Strike First, Strike Hard, No Mercy’. His clash with Daniel in the tournament final has become one of the most famous scenes in the series.

The rivalry between Daniel and Johnny is later explored in greater depth several decades later in the series *Cobra Kai*, which depicts the two men as adults and offers a more nuanced perspective on their past. This Funko 2-Pack therefore celebrates the seminal duel that launched the entire *Karate Kid* franchise.
