Johnny Lawrence is one of the central characters in *The Karate Kid*. A talented pupil at the Cobra Kai dojo, he is trained by Sensei John Kreese, who instils in him an aggressive fighting philosophy based on the motto ‘Strike First, Strike Hard, No Mercy’.

His rivalry with Daniel LaRusso begins shortly after Daniel’s arrival in California. Tensions between the two teenagers reach their peak at the All Valley tournament, where Johnny faces Daniel in the final.

Although he is portrayed as the main antagonist in the first film, Johnny already displays a certain complexity, particularly in his response to Kreese’s brutal methods. The Cobra Kai series would go on to explore his adult life in depth and offer a much more nuanced view of the character.
