In the world of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Giyu Tomioka is the Water Pillar, one of the nine elite demon slayers of the Demon Slayer Corps. An introverted character of great moral integrity, he is the first to cross paths with Tanjiro Kamado at the very start of the series, choosing to spare Nezuko’s life despite her transformation into a demon – a decision that goes against the Corps’ fundamental rules.
His two-tone haori, half-red and half-aqua green with geometric patterns, has become one of the franchise’s most iconic visual elements. A master of the Water Breathing style and creator of a unique technique, the Eleventh Form, Giyu Tomioka embodies the rigour and solitude of the elite warrior, whose painful past is revealed throughout the series’ narrative arcs.
