Character origin and lore

Galactus is one of the most famous cosmic entities in the Marvel Universe. Before becoming the gigantic being known by that name, he was Galan, an inhabitant of the planet Taa from a previous universe. The destruction of that universe led to his transformation and rebirth as a cosmic power of exceptional magnitude.

Galactus must absorb the energy of planets to survive, which has earned him his famous nickname, the Devourer of Worlds. However, he does not always fit the traditional mould of a supervillain: his actions are frequently portrayed as the consequences of his own nature and his need to feed, rather than as a mere desire for destruction.

The character has historically been closely linked to the Fantastic Four. His appearances near Earth regularly pit Reed Richards, Susan Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm against a threat whose scale far exceeds that of a conventional adversary. This association also explains why BEM’S classifies this figurine under the Fantastic Four sub-licence.

Galactus is also famous for employing Heralds, beings to whom he bestows a portion of the Cosmic Power so that they may seek out worlds capable of satisfying his hunger. The most famous of these remains the Silver Surfer, whose story is deeply intertwined with that of the Devourer of Worlds.
