Character background and universe (Lore)

Henry “Hank” McCoy, better known as Beast, is one of the original members of the X-Men. A mutant endowed with extraordinary strength, agility and physical abilities, he is distinguished above all by his exceptional intelligence, which makes him one of the most brilliant scientists in the Marvel universe.

Despite his imposing, animal-like appearance, Hank is an intellectual with a passion for science, literature and research. This duality between a beast-like appearance and a deeply cultured personality is one of the central aspects of the character.

In X-Men ’97, Beast retains this vital role within the team. He acts both as a fighter and as a scientist, using his knowledge to analyse mutant-related phenomena and assist his teammates in the face of the many threats they encounter. Hasbro officially describes this version as that of a hyper-intelligent scientist whose mutation grants him superhuman strength and a blue appearance.
