Origin and universe of the character
Published in April 2006 by Marvel Comics, The Amazing Spider-Man #529, written by J. Michael Straczynski and illustrated by Ron Garney, marks a major turning point just before the events of the famous Civil War saga. In this story, Peter Parker is presented with a revolutionary cybernetic suit by his mentor Tony Stark: the Iron Spider suit. Designed in Iron Man’s red and gold colours, this high-tech liquid metal armour grants Spider-Man vastly enhanced superhuman abilities, improved lens systems, and three retractable mechanical claws (the ‘waldoes’) attached to his back. It is clad in this iconic armour that Peter Parker travels to Washington to attend the debates on the Superhero Registration Act, cementing this suit forever as one of the most iconic designs in modern pop culture.
