Character background and lore

Deidara is a ninja from the Hidden Village of Iwa and one of the most recognisable members of the Akatsuki criminal organisation in Naruto Shippuden.

A specialist in explosive techniques, Deidara uses a very distinctive form of ninjutsu based on a special type of clay which he moulds using mouths located in his palms. He thus creates birds, spiders and other shapes capable of exploding on command.

Deidara regards his explosions as a true art form and sums up his philosophy with the idea that art is an explosion. This artistic obsession influences both his fighting style and his personality, which is often arrogant and provocative.

Within Akatsuki, he teams up notably with Sasori, then with Tobi, and takes part in several important missions, including the capture of Gaara. His clash with Sasuke Uchiha also remains one of his most memorable battles.
