Star Wars: A New Hope — Millennium Falcon — Revell 1/72 Scale Model Kit

Recreate one of science fiction’s most famous spacecraft with this Millennium Falcon model kit, inspired by Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. Produced by Revell at the stated scale of 1/72, this kit reproduces the modified freighter piloted by Han Solo and Chewbacca during their encounter with Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Rebel Alliance forces.

The model comprises 52 plastic parts to be assembled and, once completed, measures approximately 37.5 cm in length. The hull features numerous moulded details evoking the plates, ducts, panels and technical equipment visible on the ship in the saga.

Several moving parts enhance the display. The detection system’s dish can be rotated, and the loading ramp can be opened or closed. A sheet of decals allows you to add the markings and details needed to finish the hull.

The model comes with a detailed, illustrated assembly guide. Revell classifies it as difficulty level 3, a level that requires precise assembly as well as painting and gluing to achieve a complete finish.

With its asymmetrical silhouette, side-mounted cockpit and prominent surface features, this model makes for a display piece well-suited to collections dedicated to Star Wars, science-fiction spacecraft and model-making.

Origin and background of the spacecraft (Lore)

The Millennium Falcon was originally a YT-1300 light freighter built by the Corellian Engineering Corporation. Its worn exterior conceals numerous modifications made over time to improve its speed, manoeuvrability, defensive systems and smuggling capabilities.

The ship was first owned by Lando Calrissian, who customised its interior and equipment to suit his needs. Han Solo subsequently became its owner after beating Lando at a game of sabacc. From then on, he travelled the galaxy with his Wookiee co-pilot Chewbacca, using the Millennium Falcon for various transport and smuggling missions.

In A New Hope, Han and Chewbacca agree to transport Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, C-3PO and R2-D2 from Tatooine to Alderaan. On arrival, they discover that the planet has been destroyed by the Death Star and that the Millennium Falcon has been captured by the Imperial station’s tractor beam.

The crew then use the ship’s hidden compartments to evade the Imperial search. Han, Luke and Chewbacca subsequently take part in the rescue of Princess Leia before returning to the Millennium Falcon and leaving the Death Star.

Although Han initially plans to leave the Rebel Alliance after receiving his reward, he returns at the decisive moment of the Battle of Yavin. The Millennium Falcon intervenes against the Imperial fighters pursuing Luke Skywalker, allowing him to fire the torpedoes that destroy the first Death Star.

The ship is equipped with a hyperdrive, deflector shields, quad laser cannons and numerous illegally modified systems. However, its performance is often marred by mechanical problems, forcing Han and Chewbacca to carry out makeshift repairs on a regular basis.

The Millennium Falcon gradually becomes a symbol of the struggle against the Empire. Despite its appearance as an old cargo ship, it plays a part in several major events in the saga and proves capable of rivalling much more modern fighters.

This Revell model reproduces the most recognisable features of the classic version: its off-centre cockpit, circular hull, forward mandibles, movable satellite dish and functional loading ramp.
