Origin and lore of the Master Sword

The Master Sword, also known as the Legendary Sword, is one of the most important weapons in The Legend of Zelda universe. Closely associated with Link, it is traditionally portrayed as a weapon destined for the hero, capable of fighting the forces of evil, notably Ganon / Ganondorf. 

Its origins are explored in greater detail in *The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword*. In this instalment, set very early in the saga’s timeline, Link is guided by Fay (Fi), the spirit of the sword, and embarks on a quest that leads to the creation of the Master Sword as it will be known to future generations.
