Top Gun — F-14D Super Tomcat & F/A-18E Super Hornet — Revell 1/72 Gift Set
Bring together two generations of iconic aircraft from the Top Gun franchise with this Revell 1/72 scale gift set. The set includes an F-14D Super Tomcat, featured in the first film, and an F/A-18E Super Hornet, the star aircraft of Top Gun: Maverick.
Both models feature detailed cockpits and landing gear, as well as various external loads such as fuel tanks and guided missiles. The decal sheets reproduce the liveries inspired by the two films, allowing each aircraft to be displayed in an instantly recognisable configuration.
The set comprises a total of 202 parts: 111 for the F-14 and 91 for the F/A-18E. Once assembled, the Tomcat measures approximately 26 cm in length with a wingspan of 26.8 cm, whilst the Super Hornet measures approximately 25.4 cm in length with a wingspan of 18.8 cm.
This Gift Set edition also includes the main accessories needed to start building straight away: basic paints, a paintbrush and model glue. However, both aircraft must be carefully assembled, painted and decorated to achieve a complete finish.

Origin and background of the aircraft
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a two-seater carrier-based fighter developed for the US Navy. It is distinguished by its twin engines, twin vertical stabilisers and, above all, its variable-geometry wings, capable of extending at low speed and then folding back during high-speed flight.
In the first *Top Gun*, released in 1986, Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell and Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw fly a Tomcat whilst training at the elite naval aviation school. The film’s aerial scenes played a major part in making this aircraft an icon of cinema and popular culture.
The Revell kit identifies this model as an F-14D Super Tomcat. This later variant of the Tomcat features modernised engines, avionics and detection systems compared to the F-14A, which is the version mainly seen in the original film.
The F/A-18E Super Hornet represents the next generation of American carrier-based fighter aircraft. A single-seater, multi-role aircraft designed for carrier operations, it is capable of carrying out interception, escort, ground attack and precision strike missions.
In *Top Gun: Maverick*, Pete Mitchell returns as a test pilot and instructor. The Super Hornet becomes the centrepiece of the mission entrusted to the young pilots he is tasked with training, replacing the Tomcat as the US Navy’s primary operational fighter featured in the series.
The two aircraft thus represent two distinct periods in Maverick’s career. The Tomcat evokes his early days, his daring and his relationship with Goose, whilst the Super Hornet represents his return as an experienced pilot tasked with passing on his knowledge to a new generation.
