Winnie is wearing a party hat that emphasises the anniversary theme of this edition. Positioned at the centre of a specially designed display, he retains his instantly recognisable appearance, with his yellow fur, red top and gentle, joyful expression.

Origin and character lore

Winnie-the-Pooh is a character created by the British writer A. A. Milne and illustrated by E. H. Shepard. The first collection of stories featuring Winnie was published on 14 October 1926.

The stories are mainly set in the Hundred Acre Wood. There, Winnie has little adventures alongside Christopher Robin, Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Rabbit, Owl, Kanga and Roo.

Winnie is a peaceful, kind-hearted and sometimes naive bear, best known for his insatiable love of honey. His sweet tooth regularly lands him in unexpected situations, but his optimism and devotion to his friends always enable him to find a solution.

Despite the apparent simplicity of his adventures, the world of Winnie the Pooh explores universal themes such as friendship, solidarity, patience and acceptance of differences. Each inhabitant of the forest has a distinct personality, from Tigger’s boundless enthusiasm to Piglet’s melancholy.
