Add the former SOLDIER-turned-mercenary to your collection with this Adorable Arts figurine of Cloud Strife, inspired by his appearance in Final Fantasy VII Remake. Produced by Square Enix, it depicts the protagonist in a compact, big-headed style, whilst retaining his instantly recognisable silhouette, his dark outfit and his imposing Crush Blade.

Cloud is depicted with his thick blonde hair, consisting of numerous spiky strands pointing in various directions. His long fringe falls partially over his large blue-green eyes, the colour of which reflects the character’s exposure to mako energy.

The figurine features his black and dark blue mercenary outfit. Cloud wears a sleeveless top with a high collar, loose-fitting trousers cinched above his boots, and several belts around his waist. Straps, rivets and small metal buckles add a detailed finish despite the range’s deliberately simplified proportions.

His left shoulder is protected by a large black shoulder guard adorned with silver bolts. His forearms feature two different pieces of armour: dark armour on his right arm and a metal armguard paired with a reinforced glove on his left arm. This asymmetry faithfully recreates the functional and improvised appearance of his gear.

The Buster Sword is the main accessory. Cloud can carry it over his shoulder in a confident fighting stance. The very wide black and silver blade features a massive guard, a dark hilt and two circular slots reminiscent of the game’s Materia system.

Character background and universe

Cloud Strife is the main protagonist of Final Fantasy VII Remake. He is a former member of SOLDIER First Class, Shinra Corporation’s elite military unit, and now works as a mercenary.

At the start of the story, Cloud accepts a mission proposed by his childhood friend Tifa Lockhart. He joins the eco-terrorist group Avalanche during their attack on a mako reactor located in the sprawling city of Midgar.

Shinra extracts mako – a refined form of the planet’s life energy – to power the city and its facilities. Avalanche believes that this exploitation is gradually depleting the world and seeks to destroy the reactors to slow down the company’s activities.

Cloud initially claims to be interested only in his pay. He maintains a cold demeanour, speaks little and refuses to become emotionally involved in the group’s objectives. His famous catchphrase, ‘Not interested’, sums up this detachment and explains the alternative pose chosen by Square Enix for this figurine.

His behaviour, however, conceals a far more fragile identity. Cloud suffers from fragmented memories and confuses certain events from his past with those experienced by Zack Fair, a genuine member of SOLDIER who played a vital role in his survival.

After leaving his home village of Nibelheim, Cloud joined the regular Shinra forces without attaining the prestigious rank to which he aspired. He was subsequently exposed to mako and Jenova cells during the experiments conducted by Professor Hojo.

These treatments gave him strength and speed superior to those of an ordinary human, but also impaired his memory and his sense of self. Cloud gradually developed a personality shaped by his ambitions, his traumas and certain memories inherited from Zack.

The Buster Sword directly symbolises this story. Before coming into Cloud’s possession, it was wielded by Zack, who had himself received it from his mentor, Angeal Hewley. The weapon thus represents a legacy passed down through several warriors, as well as the memories that Cloud must learn to understand.

Throughout the adventure, he develops deeper bonds with Tifa, Barret Wallace, Aerith Gainsborough and the other members of the party. Their presence gradually compels him to move beyond his attitude as a lone mercenary and to recognise that the events in Midgar concern him personally.

Cloud is also haunted by visions of Sephiroth, a former SOLDIER hero who has become a major threat. Their relationship is linked to the Nibelheim incident, Shinra’s experiments and the Jenova cells present in their bodies.

The Remake expands on this conflict by introducing the possibility of altering a fate that appears to be already set in stone. Cloud and his companions must therefore confront Shinra, the consequences of mako exploitation, and a force seeking to preserve the predetermined course of events.

This Adorable Arts figurine brings together the hero’s two main facets. The pose with the Crushblade depicts the formidable mercenary capable of taking on Shinra’s soldiers and machines, whilst the expression with his eyes closed evokes his aloof nature, his terse replies and the uncertainties hidden behind his apparent self-assurance.
