This PVC figurine depicts Saichi Sugimoto, the main character of the manga and anime series Golden Kamuy. This model is produced by Banpresto as part of its range of collectable figurines based on the franchise.

The character is depicted in a military salute, true to his past as a soldier and his nickname ‘Sugimoto the Immortal’, wearing his characteristic Meiji-era hunter’s outfit. The figurine comes with a rock-shaped base evoking the wild landscapes of Hokkaido, the central setting of the series. It is supplied in a sealed cardboard box featuring artwork in the franchise’s colours.

In the world of Golden Kamuy, Saichi Sugimoto is a demobilised veteran of the Russo-Japanese War of 1904–1905, nicknamed ‘Sugimoto the Immortal’ for his ability to survive the deadliest battles. After the war, penniless and determined to keep a promise made to a comrade who fell at the front, he sets out in search of a legendary treasure of 75 kilos of gold amassed by the Ainu people and hidden somewhere in the wilds of Hokkaido.

Accompanied by Asirpa, a young Ainu hunter whose father was killed for that very treasure, Sugimoto faces off against escaped criminals whose tattoos form a fragmented map leading to the hoard. Golden Kamuy is a seinen manga by Satoru Noda, serialised in Weekly Young Jump from 2014 to 2022 and compiled into 31 volumes. It won the 2016 Manga Grand Prix and was adapted into an anime series from 2018 onwards.
