Origin and world of the character
The character of Chubbs Peterson comes from the cult sports comedy film Happy Gilmore (called Terminator le golfeur in Quebec), directed by Dennis Dugan and released in 1996. Starring Adam Sandler in the title role, the film follows an angry, failed ice hockey player who discovers a phenomenal talent for hitting the golf ball astronomically far. Played brilliantly by actor Carl Weathers, Chubbs Peterson is a former professional golfing genius whose promising career came to an abrupt halt after an alligator bit off his right hand. Now a mentor, this endearing and eccentric character takes Happy under his wing to teach him the discipline, self-control and rhythm needed to triumph on the green, making him one of the most memorable secondary figures in Sandler's filmography.
