Origin and character’s universe
In the cult manga and anime series InuYasha, created by Rumiko Takahashi, Jakotsu is a prominent member of the Shichinintai (the Band of Seven), a group of fearsome mercenaries once executed for their cruelty, then resurrected by the demon Naraku using fragments of the Shikon Jewel. Jakotsu immediately stands out for his androgynous appearance, his colourful kimono and his sadistic yet strangely cheerful personality. In battle, he is a terrifying opponent capable of wielding the Jakotsutō (the Serpent Sword), a unique weapon composed of multiple articulated blades that unfold and undulate unpredictably to track down his target. His unwavering loyalty to his leader Bankotsu and his obsessive fascination with Inuyasha make him one of the most charismatic and feared lieutenants in the series.
