It features veteran field reporter Herb Welch, masterfully portrayed on screen by comedian Bill Hader. A senior reporter for the local news channel WNYW Channel 2 News, this elderly, deeply embittered man, cynical and utterly indifferent to studio instructions, spends his time ignoring important news stories to insult his interviewees live on air or to aggressively hit them in the face with his large vintage handheld microphone.
