Character background and lore

Kara Thrace, nicknamed Starbuck, is one of the Colonial Fleet’s finest fighter pilots. At the controls of a Viper, she stands out for her reflexes, her instinct and her mastery of flight, which enable her to take on the Cylon forces in particularly dangerous situations. Her exceptional talent, however, is accompanied by an impulsive, undisciplined and often confrontational nature.

Close to Commander William Adama and linked to his son Lee ‘Apollo’ Adama, Starbuck occupies a central place amongst the survivors of the Twelve Colonies. Behind her self-assurance and her taste for risk lie deep personal wounds, a strong sense of guilt and a complex relationship with authority.

Her journey gradually takes on a more mysterious dimension. After going missing during a mission, Kara returns under unexplained circumstances and claims to know the way to Earth. Her return, her visions and her role in the fleet’s destiny are among the series’ greatest mysteries, deliberately left open to multiple interpretations.
