Character background and universe (Lore)

Ryu is one of the founding and most iconic characters in Capcom’s Street Fighter franchise. A fighter wholly dedicated to mastering the martial arts, he travels the world in search of opponents capable of pushing him beyond his own limits.

His fighting style is based in particular on techniques that have become iconic in the series, such as the Hadoken, the Shoryuken and the Tatsumaki Senpukyaku. His friendly rivalry with Ken Masters, with whom he shared part of his training, is also one of the franchise’s long-standing cornerstones.

In the film *Street Fighter* (2026), Ryu and Ken are portrayed as two fighters who were once close, called back into the arena when Chun-Li recruits them to take part in the new World Warrior Tournament.
