Character background and lore

Ken Masters is one of the original characters in Street Fighter and shares much of his training with Ryu. Both fighters learnt the same martial arts fundamentals, but their personalities and approaches to combat are very different.

Whilst Ryu seeks above all to push himself to his limits, Ken adopts a more instinctive, flamboyant and aggressive approach. His style nevertheless retains several techniques shared with Ryu’s, notably the Hadoken, the Shoryuken and the Tatsumaki Senpukyaku.

Ken is particularly associated with the Shoryuken, which he often performs in faster versions or surrounded by flames. His friendly rivalry with Ryu is one of the most iconic relationships in the entire franchise.

In the world of the film *Street Fighter* (2026), Ken joins the other fighters in the World Warrior Tournament, reuniting with Ryu and the franchise’s leading figures in a new cinematic adaptation.
