History and background of the model
The character of Ariel, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, was created for Disney Studios' animated feature film The Little Mermaid, released in 1989. Animated mainly by Glen Keane, this independent mermaid princess with a passion for the human world marked the historic period of the "Disney Renaissance".
