Character background and lore

Edward is the protagonist of the film *Edward Scissorhands*, directed by Tim Burton in 1990. He is the unfinished creation of an inventor who dies before he can give him human hands, leaving Edward with long metal blades in place of his fingers.

After living in isolation in a mansion, Edward is taken in by Peg Boggs and gradually discovers life in an American suburb. His exceptional talent for hedge-trimming and hairdressing initially makes him popular with the locals.

Despite his kindness and great sensitivity, Edward remains profoundly different from others. His appearance and his inability to control his hands perfectly lead to misunderstandings, accidents and rejection, whilst his relationship with Kim Boggs becomes the emotional heart of the story.
