Character origin and backstory (Lore)
Created in 1963 by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, Don Heck and Jack Kirby, Iron Man (the alter ego of billionaire and genius inventor Tony Stark) is one of the pillars of pop culture and a founding member of the Avengers. Equipped with state-of-the-art technological armour powered by the ARC reactor embedded in his chest, Stark uses his fortune and intellect in the service of justice to combat technological and cosmic threats. This Pop! Comic Covers figure is specifically inspired by the comic *Iron Man #232*, published in July 1988 by Marvel Comics (written by David Michelinie and illustrated by Jackson Guice). This issue lies at the heart of a major turning point, following directly on from the famous‘Armor Wars’ saga. In this intense narrative arc, Tony Stark must contend with the psychological and political fallout from his obsessive crusade to destroy all the armour that had stolen his technology. The figure captures the iconic retro aesthetic of the classic armour from that era (the ‘Neo-Classic’ Red and Gold version), embodying in itself the entire golden age of the House of Ideas’ print publications.
