Character background and lore

Spider-Man is the superhero identity of Peter Parker, a young man living in New York. After being bitten by a radioactive spider during a science demonstration, Peter develops superhuman strength and agility, as well as the ability to cling to walls.

He also possesses a spider-sense, an instinctive perception that warns him of impending danger. Passionate about science, Peter designs his own web-shooters and the synthetic web fluid that allows him to swing between Manhattan’s skyscrapers.

At first, he tries to use his abilities to gain money and recognition. Following the death of his Uncle Ben – whom he might have been able to save – Peter realises that his powers come with a great responsibility. He therefore decides to protect the people of New York under the identity of Spider-Man.

Despite his extraordinary abilities, Peter must continue to cope with the challenges of a relatively ordinary life. He divides his time between his studies, his job, his personal relationships and his work as a vigilante, whilst trying to keep his secret identity safe.

During his adventures, Spider-Man faces numerous adversaries, including the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Venom, the Lizard, Electro, the Vulture, Mysterio and the Kingpin. Several of these enemies have a personal, scientific or professional connection to Peter Parker.
