Battlestar Galactica — POP! Television No. 1952 Gaius Baltar

Add one of Battlestar Galactica’s most ambiguous characters to your collection with this POP! Television No. 1952 figurine featuring Gaius Baltar. Designed by Funko, it depicts the brilliant scientist in an elegant outfit reminiscent of his privileged status prior to the attack on the Twelve Colonies.

Gaius Baltar is depicted with his brown hair slicked back, his eyebrows slightly raised and a deliberately ambiguous expression. These details effectively capture the mix of confidence, anxiety and opportunism that characterises him throughout the series.

The figurine wears a long burgundy coat, left open over a light blue outfit. The dark lapels, the brown panels on the waistcoat and the matching shoes add several contrasting elements to the overall look. One of his arms rests by his side, whilst the other hand is open in a gesture suggesting an explanation, a negotiation or a fresh attempt to persuade his interlocutor.

Made from vinyl, the figurine stands approximately 10.4 cm tall. It comes in an illustrated window box bearing the Battlestar Galactica logo and the number 1952, allowing it to be displayed with or without its packaging. Funko presents Baltar as an accomplished IT specialist whose work, unbeknown to him, plays a decisive role in the new war against the Cylons.

Character background and lore

Gaius Baltar is a brilliant scientist specialising in computer science and defence systems. Charismatic, brilliant and deeply self-centred, he led a privileged life on Caprica before the destruction of the Twelve Colonies.

Smitten by a woman he knows as Number Six, Baltar unwittingly grants her access to the colonial defence system. He realises too late that she is a Cylon humanoid model and that the information she transmitted facilitated the attack that wiped out almost all of humanity.

After joining the fleet of survivors, Baltar conceals his involvement and uses his intelligence to make himself indispensable. In particular, he helps develop a Cylon detector, whilst regularly being plagued by visions of Number Six, the nature of which remains unclear for a long time.

His journey takes him in turn towards science, politics, power and religion. Capable of both acts of cowardice and unexpected gestures, Baltar remains constantly torn between his survival instinct, his need for recognition and the guilt associated with the fall of the Colonies. This complexity makes him one of the central and most unpredictable characters in *Battlestar Galactica*.
